Toub: Butker still Chiefs' kicker despite struggles, Tucker signing
⟶ Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker remains the team's primary kicker, despite recent struggles and the signing of veteran Justin Tucker to the practice squad. Coach Andy Reid confirmed Butker's status after the team's recent game.
Background
Butker, a highly accurate kicker, has had an uncharacteristically inconsistent stretch of games recently. The Chiefs, facing a critical part of their season, signed Tucker, a former Pro Bowl kicker, to their practice squad, raising questions about Butker's future with the team. This move could be interpreted as a measure to provide competition or insurance.
Why it matters
The Chiefs are likely assessing their kicking situation as the team heads into the postseason. Maintaining confidence in their kicker is crucial for success in high-pressure playoff games, where missed field goals can significantly impact outcomes.
Possible impact
This situation could create pressure on Butker to regain his form. The team's decision on their kicking strategy will be closely watched and could affect their performance in crucial games. The presence of Tucker on the practice squad offers a contingency plan.
