Matthew Weiner Exits Peacock, 101 Studios Series ‘The Chairman’ Starring Eddie Murphy (EXCLUSIVE)
⟶ Matthew Weiner has exited his role as showrunner for the upcoming Peacock series 'The Chairman,' which was set to star Eddie Murphy. The series, developed by 101 Studios, was being produced for the streaming service Peacock. The reasons for Weiner's departure have not been disclosed.
Background
Matthew Weiner is best known for creating and executive producing the acclaimed AMC drama 'Mad Men.' 'The Chairman' was intended to be a high-profile project for Peacock, aiming to leverage the star power of Eddie Murphy. The series was based on a concept developed by Murphy and was described as a workplace comedy.
Why it matters
Weiner's departure at this stage raises questions about the creative direction and stability of the project. Showrunner changes can often lead to significant shifts in a series' tone, narrative, and production timeline.
Possible impact
This exit could delay production or lead to a renegotiation of terms for the series. It may also impact Peacock's strategy for attracting high-profile talent and viewers for its original programming slate. The future of 'The Chairman' itself is now uncertain.
